Frozen JR. audition details released

Zelda Rolfe – Owner and Musical Director, is delighted to have secured the licencing rights to stage Disney’s Frozen JR. at the Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich, May 31st – June 3rd, 2023.

Working once again with Anna Lawrence – Director, details of the audition process have now been released. Read on to find out more and to register for the pre-audition workshop and auditions.

Frozen JR Pre-audition workshop

The pre-audition workshop at LIMELIGHT STUDIOS is on Sunday 13th November from 1pm – 4pm. This is for anyone interested in auditioning for this production. This will be a chance to find out more about the show and to experience some of the script/lyrics and required movement.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on Sunday 27th November and with call backs (if necessary) on Monday 28th November. These will take place at Limelight Studios.

Audition results will be posted on Wednesday 29th November.

Frozen JR Characters

With the stage version of Frozen JR. we need several “lead” characters covering different age groups. Please read on to find out what Anna Lawrence will be looking for in your auditions.

Young Anna
Filled with a tremendous amount of light, energy and love, Anna is a hopelessly optimistic extrovert at all ages, but as she grows older, she longs for connection with others, especially Elsa, her sister. Each version of this warm and determined princess requires a strong singer with great comic timing.

Middle Anna
As Anna grows older she longs for connection with others, especially Elsa, her sister.

    Extra Production details
    Middle Anna features in an emotional scene where she is lonely, kept away from her sister for her own safety, and then learns that their parents have been lost at sea. Once Middle Anna has transferred in age to Anna the actor will then join the ensemble for the remainder of the Show. We will be choosing someone over the age of 9 years, OR of an appropriate height to play this early to mid teenager.

Anna
Anna is a hopelessly optimistic extrovert at all ages, but as she grows older, she longs for connection with others, especially Elsa, her sister. Each version of this warm and determined princess requires a strong singer with great comic timing.

    Extra Production details
    The young Princess of Arendelle, Anna features in the main dramatic final two thirds of the musical. This is aimed at an older teenager OR a mid teen performer of appropriate height and maturity who can deliver the demands of the role.

Young Elsa
Elsa is the elder Princess of Arendelle and next in line for the throne. She has been born with magical powers that can overwhelm her when she becomes afraid and harm others if not handled with care.

    Extra Production details
    Young Anna features in the first section of the musical, the actor will then join the ensemble for the remainder of the Show. We will be choosing someone under the age of 9 years, OR of an appropriate height to play this very young child.

Middle Elsa
The elder Princess of Arendelle and next in line for the throne. Fearful of hurting anyone with her magical powers, especially her beloved sister, Anna, Elsa becomes anxious and withdrawn as she grows older.

    Middle Elsa features in an emotional scene where she is lonely, keeping away from her sister in order to keep her safe, but frightened that her powers are getting stronger and she can’t control them. Middle Elsa then learns that their parents have been lost at sea. Once Middle Elsa has transferred in age to Anna the actor will then join the ensemble for the remainder of the Show. We will be choosing someone over the age of 9 years, OR of an appropriate height to play this early to mid teenager

Elsa
Fearful of hurting anyone, especially her beloved sister, Anna, Elsa becomes anxious and withdrawn as she grows older. before eventually learning to take control of, and become confident in, her powers which she masterfully used to manipulate the Snow Chorus.

Hans
The ambitious Prince of the Southern Isles, Hans is the overlooked thirteenth son of a king, and so constantly strives to find a way to make good and stand out. He boasts an exceedingly charming facade that fools everyone – including Anna.

Kristoff
A hardworking ice harvester, Kristoff has a sarcastic veneer and a rough-around-the-edges exterior that hides a big heart. Taken by the Hidden Folk when he was young, he loves Pabbie and Bulda dearly, but is a bit of a loner with a reindeer for a best friend – until he meets Anna.

    Extra Production details
    Short singing solos, need to be able to balance a cynical sense of humour with charming banter.

Olaf
A magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young, Olaf is endearingly delighted by everything – especially the idea of summer. Goofy and sweet.

Sven
A reindeer of few words and a fiercely loyal pal to Kristoff, Sven loves giving the ice harvester a hard time.

King Agnarr
The warm-hearted ruler of Arendelle, who is committed to protecting his family and the townspeople from his eldest daughter’s powers.

Queen Iduna
Queen Iduna possesses a sense of rightness and kindness that guides her in her protection of her two young girls. A daughter of the Northern Nomads, the Queen has the ability to communicate with the Hidden Folk of the mountains and so understands Elsa’s powers deeply.

Pabbie
Pabbie and Bulda are the mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk, who have a soft spot for ‘strays’. Ever benevolent, these parental figures want what’s best for Kristoff, even if they are a bit misguided in their efforts.The elder Princess of Arendelle and next in line for the throne.

The Bishop
Officiating the coronation and passing of the crown to Elsa, this spiritual supervisor must communicate to the Townspeople of Arendelle in a serious and formal manner

Weselton
A visiting Duke, possessing a huge inferiority complex. A bombastic, overbearing sycophant, Weslteon’s sole purpose is to hobnob with influencers and royalty.

Oaken
Oaken is an exceedingly cheerful and convivial wandering salesperson and ardent devotee to all things cozy and comfortable. Oaken’s ‘Hygge’ is a showstopper.

The snow chorus

This dancing personifies Elsa’s magical, frosty powers and creates the Queen’s ice palace. Strong dancers are required, in the style of ballet/contemporary/modern/acro and express the feelings of the words and sentiment of Elsa’s struggle/journey through the story

Ensemble

Here is a list of ensemble part and roles that will be allocated from the ensemble audition and throughout the rehearsal process: Townspeople, Snow Chorus, Hidden Folk, Castle staff (including Housekeeper, Butler, Handmaidens, Cook, Steward, Guards) & Oaken’s family

Rehearsal outline

All rehearsals prior to the production week will take place at LIMELIGHT STUDIOS 113 Aylsham Road, NR3 2HY. Rehearsals will begin in January 2023 and generally be on SUNDAYS 10 – 4pm and with some SATURDAY afternoons 3.00 – 5.00pm. Rehearsal times and days will be specific to characters and groupings, so not everyone will be called all of the time. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be made available once the Show is cast.
We will also be using some days in both the FEBRUARY HALF TERM and the EASTER HOLIDAYS/BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY, so please indicate on your form any days that you have already committed to with regard to any family holidays etc

Show fees

All rehearsals will be charged, monthly in arrears, at £5.00 per rehearsal. All rehearsal fees MUST be settled in full, prior to the opening night of this production. A membership fee of £25.00, will be invoiced once you have successfully auditioned, unless you are already a member of the Limelight Theatre Company. Your annual membership will cover this.
